Privacy policy

Cove. Beach Essentials ("Cove", "we", "us") runs our store in Hahei and the website covehahei.nz. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, who we share it with, and your rights under New Zealand's Privacy Act 2020.

What we collect

• Contact and order details: your name, email, phone number, delivery and billing addresses, what you buy, and your order history.
• Payment information: payments are processed by Shopify Payments and Afterpay. We never see or store your full card details.
• Account and loyalty details: if you create an account or join our loyalty programme, your login details, points and preferences.
• Messages: what you send us by email, live chat or social media, including photos of an item if you report a problem.
• Reviews: reviews and photos you choose to submit.
• Device and browsing information: your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you visit and how you use our site, collected with cookies and similar tools.
• In-store purchases: if you give us your details at the counter, we record them with your purchase in our point-of-sale system.

Where it comes from

Directly from you, automatically when you use our site, and from our service providers (for example, delivery updates from our courier).

How we use it

To process, deliver and support your orders; to handle returns, store credit and damage claims; to answer your questions; to run our loyalty programme; to send you marketing if you've opted in; to understand and improve our website; and to prevent fraud and meet our legal obligations.

Who we share it with

We only share what each provider needs to do its job:

• Store platform: Shopify, which hosts our website, checkout and customer accounts.
• Payments: Shopify Payments and Afterpay.
• Delivery: GoSweetSpot and NZ Post, including for parcels to Australia.
• In-store point of sale: Lightspeed Retail.
• Email, SMS and loyalty: Klaviyo and Marsello. We only send marketing if you've agreed, and every message has an unsubscribe link.
• Reviews: Judge.me.
• Live chat: Tidio.
• Website analytics: Microsoft Clarity (which records visits to show how pages are used), Triple Whale and Supermetrics.
• Product listings: Google, through our Google Shopping product feed.
• Business tools: AI assistants we use to help run the store, which may access order and customer information when we use them for store tasks.
• Professional advisers and authorities: our accountant or legal advisers where needed, or where the law requires us to share it.

We don't sell your personal information.

Our relationship with Shopify

Our store runs on Shopify. Shopify collects and processes personal information about your use of the store under its own privacy policy.

Information stored overseas

Several of our service providers store information outside New Zealand, including in Australia, the United States, Canada and Europe. We use providers that are required to protect it to standards comparable to the Privacy Act.

Cookies

We use cookies to keep your cart working, remember your preferences, and understand how our site is used. You can manage cookies in your browser settings; some parts of the site may not work properly without them.

Third-party links

Our site links to other websites, such as brand pages and social media. Their own privacy policies apply.

Children

Our store isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 16.

Keeping it safe and how long we keep it

We take reasonable steps to protect your information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access. We keep order records for as long as needed for our business and for tax and accounting law (generally seven years), and delete or anonymise other information when we no longer need it. If a privacy breach is likely to cause serious harm, we'll tell you and the Privacy Commissioner.

Your rights

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it. Email hi@covehahei.co.nz. You can unsubscribe from marketing at any time using the link in our emails or texts.

Complaints

If you have a concern, please contact us first and we'll try to sort it out. If you're not happy with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page.
