Kūmarahou gives you the full benefit of the exceptional properties of 100% Kūmarahou that has been sustainably hand harvested from the native bush of New Zealand. Kūmarahou has a rich traditional use where it was used in many different circumstances. Known for it’s stunning yellow flower when it explodes into colour for a few short weeks at the start of Spring that is responsible for one of its common names of ‘Golden Tainui’.
More importantly it’s wonderful expectorant & antimicrobial actions lend it to support many bronchial & respiratory ailments, not to mention its potent cleansing properties. Kūmarahou is a wonderful tonic herb and a very special NZ native plant. It has a unique bitter taste that is not for the faint-hearted, but can easily be diluted down or had with a small amount of honey to soften the bitter tones.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I brew OKU tea?
Steep one teabag in freshly boiled water for 5-10 minutes — the longer you steep, the stronger and more full-bodied the flavour. Some of our herbs (like Kūmarahou) have a naturally bitter taste, so steep to your preference and add a touch of honey if you'd like to soften it.
What does "wildharvested" mean?
It means the herb is sustainably hand-harvested from its natural wild environment (native NZ bush), rather than commercially cultivated — many of our native NZ herbs, like Kawakawa and Kūmarahou, are gathered this way.
Are these teas caffeinated?
Most of our blends are naturally caffeine-free, made from 100% herbs. The exception is our Energise blend, which contains Yerba Maté and green tea, both of which contain natural caffeine (gentler than coffee, without the jitters).
How should I store my tea?
Keep the tube sealed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to preserve the natural oils and potency of the herbs.
