    Description

'So This is Love' features a male and female miromiro/tomtit pair, lovingly glancing at one another as they perch amongst flowering native puawānanga/clematis paniculata, joined by a friendly pīrorohu/bumblebee.

Miromiro/tomtits are charming little songbirds native to Aotearoa/New Zealand, known for their striking plumage and sweet, high-pitched calls. These birds often live in monogamous pairs, forming strong bonds that can last through multiple breeding seasons. During nesting, the male takes great care of his mate — bringing her food while she keeps the eggs warm, then working together to raise their young. A beautiful example of teamwork in nature.

Artwork by Northland-based artist, Katy Hayward. Inspired by her aroha/love for going on beautiful bush walks with her little family, and the joy of both hearing and spying these adorable little forest birds. The puawānanga/clematis paniculata is also one of Katy's favourite native flowers — she gets such joy seeing their brightness open up amongst the trees each springtime.
