Description
'Walking with Aroha' features a brown kiwi taking a stroll through beautiful Aotearoa/New Zealand native bush foliage — sporting a fancy mānuka flower crown and joined by a few very special native friends.
Kiwi birds are a significant national icon of Aotearoa/New Zealand, equally cherished by all cultures. They represent the wonderful uniqueness of our native wildlife and the value of our natural heritage.
Special native friends included: hura/giant centipede, pupurangi/kauri snail, kahukura/red admiral butterfly, pepe para riki/common copper butterfly, Rauparaha's copper butterfly, glade copper butterfly, pepe ao uri/common blue butterfly, Janita's tussock butterfly, and mumutawa/ladybird. Native foliage included: kauri leaves, kauri male cone, disintegrated kauri female cone, kauri seeds, tānekaha leaves, spiky rimu leaves, tōtara leaves, ponga/silver fern, and mānuka/tea tree flowers and leaves.
Artwork by Northland-based artist, Katy Hayward. Inspired by her aroha/love for going on beautiful bush walks with her little family, and a special nod to her daughter's obsession with fancy headpieces.
